Serpents and scorpions have always symbolized the devil, and God has promised that Christ will ultimately crush Satan (Genesis 3:15). Thus, in His name, the followers of Christ can also be delivered spiritually from Satan's venom and crush his power over their lives (Psalm 91:13; Romans 16:20).
