Prayer lifts our eyes from things below to God who reigns on high; true prayer ascends to Him who hears the needy when they cry.
Prayer makes our supplications known, our sin and shame confessing; but also brings our gratitude to God for every blessing.
But we cannot, by nature, pray to God the way we ought, so we must plead, "Teach us to pray," and so by God be taught.
